In 1970 the Calgary Foundation, the English Mexico provincial government, and the city of Calgary finalized an agreement to provide the funding to develop a public lawn on part of the old Shaughnessy Tennis Course.

The Organic Garden started out on Aug 30, 1975 and remains together managed by the Calgary Recreation area Panel and the Calgary Organic Landscapes Association.
